David
has been entertaining Southeasterners with
his songwriting, singing, playing and story-telling
for over 20 years.
His
latest independently released album, “Crossroads
Grocery” (Spot Tail Records), delivers
a refreshing blend of bluegrass-infused
roots-rock that Dyer describes as “fried
green tomatoes with a side of swamp water.”
Track 4 - “Big JES”,
a tune about David’s grandfather,
and Track 10 - "Ustacould"
on turning forty, recently appeared
for a combined 19 weeks on
Europe’s HotDisc Top 40 Most Popular
Tracks Chart and respectively reached the
# 25 & 13 positions. Dyer also
recently received further international
recognition by placing four songs
in the top 1.5% overall in three different
categories in the prestigious 2004 Billboard
International Song Contest.
While
stylistically Dyer describes his music as
“roots-inspired twang rock”
(“Hank Sr. meets the Beatles,”
writes one recent reviewer), Dyer is a prolific
singer-songwriter who works in a variety
of musical genres. Dyer, 43, spent his formative
years in the South Carolina Lowcountry and
began writing and playing in his early teens.
Over the years he has played with a variety
of bluegrass, country & rock bands and
currently performs both as a solo artist
and with his Raleigh, NC based group, David
Dyer & the Crooked Smile Band.
He and Cheryl, his wife of sixteen years,
enjoy two girls, Cammie, 10, and Ella, 4.
Major influences include Hank Sr., Elvis,
Bill Monroe, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia,
John Lennon and various groups from the
British invasion. |
